Oh well.

So, Acdec stunk . . . about all that went well was that I got a perfect score in Math . . . but then four other people decided to do the same. Ananya got a total of 4870, while I got 4600 . . . Megan was sick . . . and no one else got above 4000. I mean, that's bad enough . . . we didn't need people to be making 2000-type scores . . . *sigh* anyways. I *just* got home from a study session . . . which means I've spent 6 hours on acdec today and am planning to spend 2-3 more. I've got a couple minutes before Ananya comes, though, so I'm blogging =). I've gone through music, econ, art, science, and super quiz . . . not sure what i'm gonna study tonight. But yeah. Wish me luck!

In other news . . . I got a flu shot too! It doesn't hurt unless I move my arm in a weird way or I press it . . . but then it gets that sore feeling you get when you have a shot . . . . yeah.

Oooooh, also, I finally got my letter jacket a couple days ago. It's got all my UIL/All-state patches on it =) Just to be different, I didn't put my NHS patch on it, as it meant nothing . . . less than my district number sense one :-p

*sigh* I was gonna go to a concert tonight (Olga Kern-gold medalist at the last Van Cliburn-is playing Rachmaninoff No. 2 with the FWSO . . . and they're playing Dvorak's 8th . . . yay Dvorak!), but I decided instead to study a bit more and get some rest . . . it's not worth it to come home at 11 after rushing everywhere.

Oh, I'm playing the Dvorak concerto now. Just started this week after finishing up the last two mvts of the Bach Sonata No. 1, Paganini's Caprice No. 20, and Barber's concerto. That stuff went onto a recording for college and such =) But Dvorak is so cool! There's this one passage in the first movement that I absolutely love-it starts at 5:50 on my recording by Midori, and it's after everything's calmed down. It starts with four quarter note G's, and then goes to dotted quarters, each with eighths . . . it's like a little dance, and it's *so* cool. But Ananya's here now, so I get to go study :-p

Heh . . . even longer this time since the last time. Lots has happened, people have moved, new friends in the making, old friends fading, and I'm this close to graduating and yet still that far. Gone out and broken up with someone, finished classes, started new classes, learned some (not much this year though :-p), and yet life goes on.

Right.
Definitely done with my sad sad attempt at the Tale of Two Cities type thing =) In any case, let's get down the basics. New school year = bad. Last year, school was awesome-I was learning, I was motivated, and I got stuff accomplished (yay CS State Champs!). This year . . . . . bah. I'm not learning much of anything, CS is so annoying (Pence . . . what else do I need to say), and I lost even more of my work ethic. I can't wait to get out. Lauren, both Tylers, Stephen, Kristen, all of you people who tried to make me understand why you wanted to get out of high school so badly, I understand now. It's *so* horrible. I'm learning in my math class at UTA (Numerical Analysis), bio, and euro history. Bio is ok only due to Cotton being awesome . . . don't really like the material. Euro is excessively slow. Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah

Anyways, I think I'll post for a while, if not necessarily permanently =) So, I'll see all of you later!

Ouch, long time. Also, the place was almost full! Well, except for the top level, but hey. Even though we were all faking our way through most of the runs, the pieces sounded pretty good apparently, and the pianist was great. Oooh, we had a guest artist come in to play Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3. And he was really, really good. All the times we heard that he was world-class . . . well, they were all true. So anyways, that was fun.

I can't wait until this computer science competition . . . even if it is just Dunbar . . . competition means fun, and it also means while I'm there, I don't have to think about homework or anything of that sort. Back to that stupid and perhaps the *only* college teacher who makes us turn it in . . .

Something really odd happened. I'm actually finding myself with free time, however strange that may seem. I suppose, however, the fact that I don't do any homework that isn't graded helps. Hm . . .

It's homecoming week this week, and everyone's been busy with the parade and such. As for myself, well, I've been watching everyone be busy. I guess with all the free time I have, there's not much of an excuse for not practicing every day . . . I'm only getting 4-5 days a week now, what with nights at TCC and such. At the rate my practicing is going, I don't think I'll make all-state symphony . . . maybe philharmonic. In any case . . .

I went to a Dallas Symphony concert last night, and they played the Beethoven Triple Concerto, which is cool. The only problem is, I was pretty tired, so I kept dropping off during it and started seeing double. Not a good thing. Speaking of concerts, my first concert with the GDYO is on Sunday night, October 20th. We're playing a Brahms overture, something from a guy named Kodaly, and Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3. And we get to play at the Meyerson! So, if anybody wants to come . . . ;-p

Ya know, people are truly crazy. It'd be nice if I could figure out just one of them . . . . it'd also be nice if it was myself.

It's a new week . . .supposedly. Instead, it is a simple continuation of the last week, and farther back to the beginning of school, when this endless flood of work was unleashed upon AP students across the world. What joy.

They say that the ability to see connections is important. But how many levels are there? And which ones are "deeper"? I mean, sure, I can see the relationships in math, science, and most things generally thought to be "logical". But what about the ones between people? Societies? This whole thing about seeing stuff on a so-called "deeper" level is throwing me off. *sigh* Lateral thinking is hard . . . How's college life for you guys? Man, I am so glad I'm not in college yet . . . so not ready. As for Calc III . . . the class starts 2m . . . at TCC though. It's a nice little night class, Tuesdays and Thursdays. There's like 10 people in it :-p

GAAAAH! School! Well, actually, it's not that bad. As long as I'm organized, I'll be fine. I mean, I survived the first week! =) Physics is easy . . . does it stay this way? Chem . . . the teacher doesn't seem too great. US History seems ok, as does English. Econ is a bunch of comp sci people on one side, and slackers on the other (really-they were all doing the homework during passing period). Uh . . . what else . . . French is . . . *interesting* . . . as all of Mrs. Tyler's classes are. Art History seems like it'll be quite cool, and comp sci, is, well, comp sci. Although we have cool black Dells now, all Pentium IVs! Anyways.

Acdec has *really* started a lot earlier this year . . . everybody is already reading packets. I mean actually reading them =) And all according to my doctrine! 10 pages a day, and we'll go through all the packets in 33 days! Oh, and music is sooooo much nicer. It's music of the romantic era, which means classical! And, yes, that is the extent of my life for now. Oh, wait.

GDYO started yesterday, and they are quite a bit better than my Fort Worth youth orchestra. I mean, it was the first rehearsal, and we could actually play stuff! And up to speed! Well, it's hard to describe, but we (I'm not used to "we" yet) are gooood. =) k, now that really is it.

Ah, yes, the ever-present spirit of "lack of blogging", as I like to call it, has come and taken me away for a nice little vacation. I seem to blog more when nothing happens :-p. Lessee, starting with my lesson Sunday . . . I had the most incredible experience. When I was playing the Meditation, something in me must've clicked, and suddenly the music just flowed from me. I mean, sure, I've gotten into the pieces I've played before, but never like this. I was no longer in control of my playing, and yet I was. My subconscious or something was playing the music, and I was just along for the ride. It was so . . . exciting. Every note, I was scared that the next note would be horrible, since I had no control, yet the music kept flowing, and . . . Ah, the joys of being a musician.

On a more worldly note, I went to TCC on Monday, trying to find out what math class I was supposed to take. So, we asked a person in the admissions building, and they directed us to counseling. Counseling directed us back to the admissions building. They tried to tell us to go back to counseling, but ended up giving us forms and telling us that "Your high school counselor will know which class." So, I went to the school, and the counselors don't get back until Wednesday (today). So, --maybe-- today everything will be resolved.

Man . . . today has been the weirdest day. Let's start off with midnight :-p I had this image in my head. Think of a pitcher, with a slim handle, and imagine looking at it from above. All you see is the rim, the handle, and the sloping part where you're supposed to pour opposite the handle. Inside the pitcher is darkness. Outside, nothing. Now, imagine that two smaller sloping things appear opposite each other on the sides of the pitcher. Don't ask why, just listen. Now, water starts flowing out of the main sloping thing, smoothly, one stream. Then, the pitcher turns, and the water still pours down, out of the rim, then one of the smaller ones. It then starts turning the other way, to the other side, and back again. Never stopping, like a pendulum. Often, when I have images of motion like this in my head, I try to stop them, freeze them. But, in my imagination, they will not stop. They keep going, oblivious to my efforts. Now, why do I say all this nonsense? I . . . I think that it shows my inability to "go with the flow". When something new comes up, I want to stop time, give me time to analyze it, and then move on. But time does not stop for me. *sigh* And today, I was in a really bad mood . . . don't know why . . . and I knew it . . . gaaah. Well it's over now. I got to talk to my friends, and everything is normal. But do I want to live in a normal society? hmm . . . anyways, I will attempt to sail with the winds for now, and let them take me where they will . . . .

k, I read Death of a Salesman today. I think I went over most of the bad things in the last post :-p, so now on to the good things! . . . let's see . . . oh the food is good =) At least in Shanghai . . . in other places not really. But let's see . . . well as you know I'm not the greatest at describing good things (I'm only good at criticizing :-p), so . . . this post may be quite a bit shorter. We went on a three day trip to the "Thousand Island Lake", which is really just a bunch of valleys which flooded when a dam was built there. Of course, many people had to move out of their homes and to higher ground, which ended up as the "Thousand Islands". And, not surprisingly, their economy is now tourist-based. The lake is fairly clean, although I have a feeling that it might be compared to Grapevine Lake as to the amount of junk in there. Never been there, though, so I don't know. Well there are several tiny islands there which have a special attraction. For example, there's a lock island, where there are lots of locks (you know, the kind you use to keep stuff closed :-p). A bird island, where there are lots of birds. You get the idea. But, in particular, there was a rock island, which had mini-mountains and stuff. It was actually quite scenic, but the paths were interesting. Especially squeezing through the narrow passages. And it was raining, which was annoying, since we were forced to carry around umbrellas. Oh, it rains a lot in Shanghai, so everyone carries around those little umbrellas you can fold in half, just in case it rains unexpectedly. Quite a few people also use umbrellas as sun shades, just while walking around. Uh . . . well that's about it for the scenery, the rest of the time I just wandered around Shanghai, looking at stuff. No Great Wall or Forbidden Palace, that was last time :-p So, that's my big, very incomplete report, here for all to see.

Alrighty, after three or so days, I'm finally getting to my China trip! Yay! Hmm . . . where to start . . . well probably the first thing you'll notice when you get there is that when you're in the taxi taking you to wherever you're staying, you learn to never drive on Chinese roads yourself. These drivers-all of them, not just the taxi ones-are really really crazy. Huh? Did you say lane marker? Never heard of it. Oh, I'm sorry, am I supposed to yield to pedestrians? Wha? Bicycle lane? I suppose, however, that the people on bicycles and the pedestrians have learned to make their way around . . . they're as pushy as the cars. Just with a little less inertia. Second, once you get out of the air-conditioned taxi, you'll notice the pollution. Car pollution, noise pollution (car horns :-p), ground pollution (that might not be the correct term), etc. The air smells bad, and it's not all car exhaust . . . you'll find random smells of rotten food and etc. Also, the ground is fairly dirty . . . most sidewalks are messed in one way or another and also have lots of junk lying on them. This is due to the fact that Chinese people litter. A lot. We were in this boat, and someone just threw an empty bottle over their shoulder. Not even for fun (that I might understand), but for convenience. And without a care in the world. *sigh* There's also a lot of spitting and smoking. Very few (if any) places are non-smoking. In the restaurants, the later it is at night, the more smoke there is in the air. It's like a haze. Uh . . . the tap water isn't clean . . . most people just drink tea . . . There's a lot of street-side vending. Some of it is in the form of little "booths" . . . I'm not sure what to call them, because some are actually in a building that are "missing" a wall, and some are just under tents or something . . . and some of it is in the form of wandering people carrying around stuff to sell. There's also a lot of people standing around handing out cards or coupons for one thing or another. lol like this one guy. We passed by a McDonald's, which was of course full *mutter*, and we kept walking, practically everyone on the sidewalk was going the other way, holding a coupon in their hand. So then we kept walking . . . and saw more people . . . walked some more, and saw more people . . . and then we finally saw a guy with a plastic bag full of business card sized coupons. Or at least formerly full :-p. Hmm . . . gotta go practice lol . . . write more when I get back.

Did you know?
Shoes are the most common article of clothing thrown in anger.

You've been dead for 3000 years, but you are still the life of the party because your monster match is the mummy. But, now, I'm undecided as whether to go to the GDYO, which is the better orchestra, or to stay here, and stay with my friends. Well I've got until July 1 to decide . . . more than enough time to ponder =)
My music is coming along pretty good, and I'm feeling somewhat confident about playing in Music Theory on Monday :-p The auditions Monday night don't really matter (which means I'm really really confident about those). If I were to somehow do so bad that I were to be put into the 2nd violins . . . gah.
Oooh I saw Star Wars! I would say that it was great, but due to my cynical and sarcastic nature, I instead poke at the bad parts, like Yoda "fighting" and Anakin's three seconds with dual lightsabers. Ouch. lol out of nowhere it came to me that I hadn't blogged in a looong time . . . so hi all =) Wow, what have I been doing since then . . . well I can't remember that far back. The big thing I remember is screwing up the AP Calc test . . . *mutter* There is no way that I'm gonna forget Euler's method now . . . Oh and UIL State too. Eh Jason got first individual, which was cool, but our team only got third, so . . . *shrug* there's next year I guess. Ooooh ooh Star Wars Thursday May 16 (no commas required)! I haven't heard anything bad about it, rather everything is good. Oh and I need to see Spiderman too, I heard that was really good too. Lessee, we had concerts Sunday and Monday night . . . both of them stunk . . . *shudder*. But on a (slightly) happier note, after auditions next week, I get to play Meditation by Massenet and Gypsy Airs by Sarasate. Both showpieces, the Meditation slow, and the Gypsy Airs very very hard. It's all technical difficulties . . . but if I can pull it off it'll sound cool! Well off to practicing for those auditions for me =)

Hmm . . . haven't blogged since Wednesday of last week . . . wow. Actually I haven't been on the comp much at all other than to do work recently . . . guess I needed a retreat from the world or something. But anyways, I have been on the comp to program! So for any of you that are interested, go to ace.delos.com/usacogate. It's the site for the USA Computing Olympiad, and you can sign up for free, no ads, no nothing (official stuff ;-P). However, be warned-the problems are quite hard. Even the first one. And yes, for one of the later ones (*cough* poly *cough*) it may be useful to write a class (or two). But anyways.

Gaaah . . . UIL State is this week . . . got to scrap time from something so I can study . . . what shall it be. What shall it be.

What else have I been doing . . . oh I went to see Ice Age (finally). lol 'twas great. And it's not even like Shrek, where the humor is very cynical, but instead just has some hints of it, so if you want to, you can still go home with that happiness found in every Disney movie. End of the week, and two computer science competitions in the next two days! Fun fun =). And just to mix things up, competing with two different teams, which makes it all the more interesting. Which reminds me.

Ya, I'm probably dead if she reads this, but it's hard to be around Ananya. The whole situation is all too familiar to the one with Laura, except that I haven't gone out with Ananya. However, that pretty much ended up being a minor detail. The main difference is that while I gave Laura what was probably too much attention, Ananya wants that much attention, and I gave it to her. For a time. After that, I think I probably subconsciously realized it, and for some reason, I started turning away. And just now am able to explain it in words. The amount of attention she requires is so high, that now I have reverted to the other extreme, and am practically ignoring her. Of course, I still don't know what to do, which doesn't help the problem. So . . . that's the one thing that is bad in my life right now.

"Learning is what most adults will do for a living in the 21st century." - Perelman
Hmm . . . What was I doing yesterday . . . dunno. Oh well. Today my left eye was (and still is) itching; quite annoying. Comp sci was interesting, what with Mr. A being gone. However, before he left, he managed to ghost my computer, and I hadn't backed up all the session 6 stuff yet. *mutters* So I'm behind now. And lessee, I guess I'll do chem 2m morning, and french hopefully too. Too tired today, I cut practice short since I had no energy. And wow, that's a bunch of random thoughts.

Hey, West Point sent me a brochure. I wonder if they expect me to actually respond. I suppose I should respond to some of these things so I can get "more information". Oh well.

Hm, I've noticed that I'm getting more sarcastic and aloof by the day. I don't think I've been this distant since last year . . . and the fact that I'm observing it objectively also proves it. lol it's so sad that I don't feel concern, but instead I feel curiosity about where I'll go next. Oh well, four day week this week, and I think a three day one next (woot woot for competitions), so that's cool. Oh and the one-act won districts, so we won UIL district!
